Medical Services
Pregnancy Testing
If you think you may be pregnant, a trained medical staff member can administer you a urine pregnancy test. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred. Partners are welcome to attend.
Limited Ultrasounds
Ultrasounds are available by appointment for those who qualify. A sonographer will perform your ultrasound and a doctor will review the results. Our ultrasounds cannot determine the gender of your baby, nor do they replace your regular OB/GYN appointments.
STI Testing
If you think you may have a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI), you can be tested by a trained medical staff member. Alpha Grand Rapids provides urine testing for gonorrhea and chlamydia, and we can refer you for treatment if the test is positive.
Support Services
Mentoring
Trained mentors are available to support you on your journey through our Step Up program. In these once-a-month sessions, you can talk through anything, including parenting, finances, anger management, healthy relationships, and more. Each session lasts one hour, including 40–45 minutes with your coach and the remaining time spent shopping in our store.
Single Moms Support Group
The Single Moms Support Group meets from 10:30am–1pm on Tuesdays or Fridays—you can choose the day that works best for you. Groups meet every week during the school year and for monthly picnics during the summer. Participate in group discussions, create a beautiful craft to take home, and enjoy a delicious lunch. Childcare is provided for children age 5 and younger.
Grupo de Mamas Latinas
Reúnase con un grupo de mamás cada dos semanas durante el año escolar para formar parte de una comunidad y encontrar apoyo. Las discusiones se centran en temas como el cuidado personal, las relaciones personales y la crianza de los hijos. Se proporciona cuidado de niños para menores de 5 años. Meet with a group of moms every other week during the school year to find support and build community. Discuss topics like self-care, relationships, and parenting. Childcare is provided for children five and under.
Educational Services
GED Completion
AGR provides qualified teachers and tutors to support students in their GED Completion. GED is offered at both Alpha Women’s Center (meets twice weekly during the school year) and at Alpha Men’s Center (meets once weekly during the school year). Students will be provided with study materials, practice tests, and one test in each subject area.
ESL Classes
Learn English alongside other students with the help of trained tutors and people who are certified in teaching English as a second language. The ESL Class runs from September to May (following the school year) and is held on Thursday mornings from 10–11:30am. Childcare is provided for children five and under.
Pregnancy Education
Join our Pregnancy Education Class, offered quarterly, to learn about prenatal health, labor and delivery, and basic infant care. Attend all four sessions to receive a brand new pack ‘n play! Women are welcome to bring their partner or another support person.
Parenting Classes
The Parenting Class provides a group atmosphere where both new and experienced parents can learn from and encourage each other. Watch real-life videos and talk with other moms and dads about routines, rules, and reducing stress. This 11-week class is offered twice a year.
Material Services
Material Resources
New and gently used items are available in our store. Items include diapers, clothing (sizes preemie—5T), formula, hygiene items, toys, large items like pack ‘n plays or car seats, and much more. If you are in urgent need of diapers or formula and do not attend programs at AGR, you can contact us and set up a one-time visit to receive those items. After that, participation in one or more of our programs is required.

How long do your medical appointments last?
Our medical appointments will typically last 60-90 minutes.
Can you help me find housing?
Alpha Grand Rapids does not specialize in helping people find housing, but we have strong connections with many community partner organizations that do! We will help connect you to resources that can help you with your housing needs.
Do your programs cost anything?
Our programs do not cost anything to attend, and items from our store can be purchased with Alpha Bucks.
I'm pregnant and don't know what to do. Can you help?
Yes, we would love to meet with you and hear more about how we can walk alongside you. Please reach out to schedule an appointment!
How do I earn items from your store?
You can earn Alpha Bucks by attending any of our classes or events and use those in the Alpha Store.
Can you help me get a job?
We do not offer job placement, but we can refer you to one of our community partners who can help you find employment. We do offer a GED completion program, which can help you in your job search.
Do I have to be pregnant to qualify for Alpha's programs?
You do not need to be pregnant to qualify for Alpha’s programs. If you are the mom of a child under the age of 5, you qualify for our programs at Alpha.
I am considering abortion. Can I still receive care at Alpha?
Yes, you can come to Alpha Grand Rapids for a medical visit if you are considering abortion. We are happy to answer your questions, learn how we can support you, and walk alongside you in your decision-making process.
