At Alpha Grand Rapids (AGR), we believe that everyone deserves support. All of our services are free, confidential, and available regardless of income, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, religion, nationality, or residence. The only thing we require is a photo ID. Please feel free to join as many programs as you would like!

Our programs are grouped into four categories:

Pregnancy Testing

If you think you may be pregnant, you can receive a pregnancy test from a trained medical staff member. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred. Partners are welcome to attend! Visit our Pregnant? page for more information, or Contact Us to schedule an appointment.

STI Testing

If you think you may have a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI), you can be tested by a trained medical staff member. Alpha Grand Rapids provides urine testing for gonorrhea and chlamydia, and we can refer you for treatment if the test is positive. Contact Us for more information or to schedule an appointment.

Limited Ultrasounds

Ultrasounds are available by appointment for those who qualify. A Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) will perform your ultrasound and assess the viability of the pregnancy. Support Services

Mentoring/Coaching

Trained mentors (for women) and coaches (for men) are available to provide you with caring, compassionate support as well as information and education through the Step Up Program. Meet one-on-one to discuss various topics like parenting, healthy relationships, finances, and more. Appointments take place once a month and last approximately one hour, including 40-45 minutes spent talking with the mentor/coach and the remaining time spent shopping in the store. These appointments can take place any time during our open hours, so we can schedule a time that works best for you. Contact Us to learn more or schedule an appointment.

Single Moms Support Group

The Single Moms Support Group meets from 10:30am-1pm on Tuesdays or Fridays (you can choose the day that works best for you). Groups meet every week during the school year and for monthly picnics during the summer. Participate in group discussions, create a beautiful craft to take home, and enjoy a delicious lunch. Fatherhood Group

Meet with other dads to talk about a variety of topics centered around manhood and fatherhood. You will find a community of men that encourages, challenges, and learns from one another! The group is currently meeting from 5:30-7pm on Monday evenings. Dinner is provided. Contact Us for more information.

Grupo de Mamás Latinas

Reúnase con un grupo de mamás cada dos semanas duranteel año escolar para formar parte de una comunidad y encontrar apoyo. Las discusiones se centran en temas como el cuidadopersonal, las relaciones personales y la crianza de los hijos. Se proporciona cuidado de niños para menores de 5 años. Meet with a group of moms every other week during the school year to find support and build community. Discuss topics like self-care, relationships, and parenting. Childcare is provided for children five and under. Contact Us for more information.

Educational Services

Pregnancy Education Class

Join our Pregnancy Education Class, offered quarterly, to learn about prenatal health, labor and delivery, and basic infant care. Attend all four sessions to receive a brand new pack ‘n play! Women are welcome to bring their partner or another support person. Contact Us to learn when the next class will be held.

Parenting Class

The Parenting Class provides a group atmosphere where both new and experienced parents can learn from and encourage each other. Watch real-life videos and talk with other moms and dads about routines, rules, and reducing stress. This 11-week class is offered twice a year. Contact Us to learn more.

GED Completion Program

AGR provides qualified teachers and tutors to support students in their GED Completion. GED is offered at both Alpha Women’s Center (meets twice weekly during the school year) and at Alpha Men’s Center (meets once weekly during the school year). Students will be provided with study materials, practice tests, and one test in each subject area. Contact Us if you would like to learn more.

Jobs for Life

Alpha Grand Rapids is excited to be bringing Jobs for Life, a nationally recognized program, to West Michigan! Jobs for Life is a biblically-based job skills training program for men who need a job or want a better job. You’ll finish this program in two months and have more knowledge, confidence, and support. PLUS, earn items you need to launch your career! Classes are held twice per week in the evenings, and dinner is provided. Contact Us to learn more!

English as a Second Language (ESL) Class

Learn English alongside other students with the help of trained tutors and people who are certified in teaching English as a second language. The ESL Class runs from September to May (following the school year) and is held on Thursday mornings from 10-11:30am. Childcare is provided for children five and under. Aprenda Inglés junto a otros estudiantes con la guía de tutores entrenados y personas certificadas en enseñar Inglés como segunda lengua.

Material Resources

Material Resources

At AGR, we allow one emergency visit to receive diapers. After that, you can join a program to continue receiving “Alpha Bucks” to spend in our store. The store has items like diapers, wipes, formula, baby clothes, toys, and maternity clothes. You can also save up Alpha Bucks for a new pack ‘n play or car seat. Programs vary on how often shopping times are available and how many Alpha Bucks are provided.
